Why Don’t We Have Time for God?

“I don’t have time for God.”

It’s a phrase we don’t often say out loud, but our lives reveal it. Our days are filled with work, family, errands, and endless distractions. The hours disappear, and before we know it, there’s no room left for prayer, scripture, or time with God. But is time really the issue?

The truth is, it’s not about time—it’s about priorities. And behind this struggle lies a deeper battle: the world’s distractions, our own excuses, and even the schemes of the enemy working to pull us away from what truly matters.

The Real Battle Behind Busyness

The idea of “not enough time” is one of the greatest deceptions we face. Every day, we’re bombarded with noise: social media, deadlines, chores, and endless notifications. The devil doesn’t need you to reject God outright; he just needs you distracted.

Busyness becomes his tool, filling your schedule with good things—work, family, even noble pursuits—until there’s no space left for God. This subtle attack keeps you spiritually dry, running on empty, and constantly saying, “I’ll get to God tomorrow.”

The Bible warns us of this danger: “Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near.” (Isaiah 55:6). The opportunity to draw close to God isn’t guaranteed forever. Delaying time with Him is a gamble we cannot afford to take.

Excuses That Keep Us Stuck

How many times have you thought, “When life slows down, I’ll spend more time with God”? But life rarely slows down. In Acts 24:25, Felix delayed listening to Paul’s message, saying, “When it is convenient, I will call for you.” Yet, that “convenient time” never came.

Excuses are chains. They keep us trapped in spiritual procrastination, pulling us further from the One who can actually bring peace to our chaos.

God Offers Freedom From the Cycle of Striving

Here’s the good news: God isn’t adding another task to your busy life—He’s inviting you to freedom. Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28).

This isn’t the kind of rest that comes from a vacation or a quiet weekend. It’s soul rest. It’s stepping out of the world’s exhausting pace and realigning your life with what truly matters: a relationship with the One who holds all time in His hands.

Making Time for God Is a Choice

Jesus modeled this perfectly. Even though He carried the weight of the world’s redemption on His shoulders, He made time to be with the Father. He withdrew to quiet places to pray, showing us that time with God isn’t something we “find.” It’s something we choose.

The blind man who called out to Jesus didn’t wait for the “right time.” He shouted, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” (Mark 10:47). Even as others tried to silence him, he refused to wait. Jesus stopped for him, showing that no matter how busy His mission was, He always had time for those who sought Him.

If Jesus made time for the Father—and for us—how can we not make time for Him?

What are you chasing right now?

We all have 24 hours in a day, but what you prioritize reveals what you truly value. If your calendar is filled with everything but God, there’s a problem. Busyness isn’t just a scheduling issue, it’s a spiritual battle. One that the enemy thrives on, to keep you distracted and distant from God.

Jesus doesn’t wait for the “right time” to meet with you. He’s ready now.

The question is: Are you?
